Nurseries in Hayes
Looking for nurseries in Hayes? ToddleKids helps parents compare childcare across Hayes Town, Pinkwell, Wood End, Yeading, Charville and surrounding UB3 and UB4 areas.
Childcare pressure is not equal across Hayes. Hillingdon's latest Childcare Sufficiency Assessment identifies Pinkwell and Yeading as priority areas where demand for 3 and 4 year old funded places could exceed supply, while Hayes Town is already very close to capacity. For 2 year olds, Hayes Town and Yeading currently have identified deficits.

Your child and funded hours
What counts?
16 hours a week at the minimum wage for your age: £2,643.68 if you're 21 or over, £2,256.80 if you're 18 to 20, and £1,664.00 if you're under 18 or an apprentice. If you've been self-employed for under 12 months, or you're on parental, sick or annual leave, you can still qualify, and some benefits (such as Carer's Allowance) count for a partner who doesn't work. If you both work, you could get 30 hours a week (1,140 a year).
From 1 January 2029: 15 hours a week (570 a year).
Funded hours start the term after your child reaches the age (9 months for working-parent hours, 2 for the extra-support offer, 3 for the universal 15 hours): on 1 January, 1 April or 1 September. You'll need to reconfirm your details every 3 months.
How will you pay?
- Full weekly fee (before funding)
- £186.00
- Per year, after funding
- £9,672
This is an estimate, not a quote. Nurseries set their own prices, opening weeks and funded-hours patterns, and not all offer funded or stretched places. Check with the nursery. England only.
How we work this out
570 hours a year is 15 hours × 38 weeks; 1,140 is 30 × 38. Term-time funding covers 38 weeks; in every other week your child attends you pay the full fee. Stretched funding spreads the same hours over more weeks (up to 52), so the yearly total is about the same. Funded hours are capped at the hours you use, 30 a week and 10-hour sessions. The monthly figure is the yearly cost ÷ 12.
Funded hours are for education and care and must be free. Nurseries can't charge top-up fees for funded hours, or make you pay for extra hours, registration fees or deposits as a condition of your place. They can offer meals, snacks, nappies and trips as optional extras, and you can choose to bring your own or opt out.
Hours may be pro-rated if your child starts part-way through the year, and funding stops when your child starts reception. Tax-Free Childcare is 20% of what you pay after funding, up to £2,000 a year (£4,000 if your child is disabled). Prices are Toddle averages or the price you enter; meals are a Toddle estimate.

Nursery questions in Hayes
Is it currently difficult to get a nursery place in Hayes?
It depends strongly on the child's age and the part of Hayes.
For 3 and 4 year olds, Hillingdon projects childcare deficits in Pinkwell and Yeading, with Hayes Town close enough to capacity that the council has identified it as an area requiring attention.
For 2 year olds, Hayes Town and Yeading currently have deficits. For children under 2, Yeading is the only Hillingdon ward with a current identified deficit, although additional wards could face shortages if every eligible family takes up its funded place.
Which parts of Hayes should parents apply earliest in?
Start particularly early in Hayes Town, Pinkwell and Yeading if you need fixed weekdays or a specific start date.
Pinkwell is also the only Hillingdon ward where the population aged 0 to 4 is projected to increase by 2030, while most other wards are projected to decline or remain broadly stable. That puts additional long term pressure on early years places there.
Can working parents get 30 funded childcare hours in Hayes?
Yes. Eligible working families can receive 30 funded hours a week from the term after their child reaches 9 months old, giving up to 1,140 funded hours a year.
Hillingdon's current eligibility information says each eligible parent normally needs to expect average earnings of at least £195 a week. A parent earning £100,000 or more in adjusted net income does not qualify.
Does having a 30 hour code guarantee a place at my preferred Hayes nursery?
No.
Hillingdon explicitly states that eligibility for funded childcare does not guarantee that all funded hours will be available at the setting you choose. This matters particularly in Hayes Town, Pinkwell and Yeading where capacity is tighter.
What hours does a school nursery in Hayes actually cover?
A useful local example is McMillan Nursery School on Judge Heath Lane.
Its current 3 and 4 year old funded sessions are:
8:30am to 11:30am for a morning place
12:30pm to 3:30pm for an afternoon place
8:30am to 3:30pm for an eligible 30 hour place
It also provides all year care and holiday provision rather than operating only the standard funded term time timetable.
Can McMillan Nursery cover childcare during school holidays?
Yes.
McMillan's current wraparound offer includes all year care for children aged 2 to 4, subject to availability and a minimum booking of 3 days a week.
Available arrangements include an 8am to 1pm morning session, 1pm to 4pm afternoon care and an 8:30am to 3:30pm full day. Holiday Activity Club also runs from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
This is useful for parents who prefer a nursery school but still need childcare outside normal school terms.
Do private nurseries generally provide longer days than school nurseries in Hayes?
Yes. Hillingdon's latest childcare assessment finds that private group nurseries and childminders typically provide around 10 hours of childcare a day.
Most private group settings open between 7:30am and 8:30am and close between 6pm and 7pm. School based provision averages about 7 hours a day and usually finishes between 3pm and 4pm.
Parents commuting through Hayes and Harlington should therefore compare the actual collection deadline as well as the funded hours.
Does attending a Hayes school nursery improve my child's chance of getting Reception there?
No. Hillingdon states that attending a nursery does not guarantee a Reception place at the same school.
Nursery admissions are handled separately and parents must make the normal Reception application when the child reaches school age.
Can my child receive SEND support at a Hayes nursery without an EHCP?
Yes.
Hillingdon's Early Years SEN Inclusion Fund supports children with SEND who use funded early education and need additional help. Funding can be used for additional staffing, specialist resources or staff training.
The current eligibility framework covers children from the term after they reach 9 months old who attend an Ofsted registered Hillingdon provider delivering funded childcare. Children who already have an EHCP use separate EHCP funding.
How widely is early years SEND funding being used in Hillingdon?
In summer 2025, 87 Hillingdon early years providers were receiving Early Years Inclusion Funding, while 18 providers received Disability Access Fund payments for eligible children receiving Disability Living Allowance.
For 2026, Hillingdon confirms that the Disability Access Fund is £975 per eligible child per year.
Where can Hayes families get local early years and SEND support?

It is currently open:
Monday to Friday: 8:45am to 7:30pm
Saturday: 10am to 1:30pm
