How many nurseries are there in Helston?
We list 11 nurseries in Helston so far, spread over 2 postcode districts, mostly TR13 and TR12.
For more of the county, see nurseries in Cornwall.
Which Helston nurseries take babies?
6 of the 11 take babies, usually from around 6 months, with baby places in TR13 and TR12. The other 5 are pre-schools and nurseries for 2 to 5 year olds, such as Wendron Pre School.
Are Helston nurseries open all year round?
4 of the 11 open all year round; 6 follow term dates, in TR13 and TR12. For early drop-offs or late pick-ups, the nurseries with extended hours are mostly around TR13 and TR12.
Is it difficult to get a nursery place for a baby in Helston?
There is documented pressure on places for children under 2.
Cornwall Council projected 69 full time equivalent places for children aged 9 to 23 months across Helston and the Lizard against demand for 75 in autumn 2025. That represents a shortfall of 6 places.
These figures cover the wider Helston and the Lizard area rather than Helston town alone. Parents needing fixed days for a child under 2 should secure a place before their planned return to work.
Can a Helston nursery charge me a registration fee for a funded place?
No. Cornwall Council states that a provider cannot charge a deposit or registration fee to secure a funded childcare place.
A provider can charge for additional hours and extras such as meals, nappies, wipes, sun cream and trips, but paying for those extras cannot be required to access the funded hours.
What do childcare fees actually look like in Helston?
Cornwall Council's official childcare records give useful current examples rather than a countywide estimate.
Helston childcare listings updated for 2026 include hourly rates of £6.50, £7 and £8.50. These are individual provider examples, not an average for all nurseries in Helston.
One £8.50 per hour listing also records a £1.66 consumables charge per session, while other current local listings show no separate consumables charge.
This is why parents should compare the complete bill rather than only the advertised hourly rate.
Where is Helston Family Hub?
Helston Family Hub is on Bulwark Road, Helston, TR13 8JF, behind Nansloe Academy.
Staff support is available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Cornwall Council states that nearby on street parking is limited.
The hub includes family activity rooms, enclosed outside space and private areas for support sessions.
