Nursery questions in East Riding of Yorkshire

Which postcode areas cover nurseries in East Riding of Yorkshire?

East Riding addresses mainly fall within the HU, YO and DN postcode areas. These include HU postcodes around Beverley and Hessle, YO around Bridlington and Pocklington, and DN around Goole.

Does East Riding of Yorkshire include Hull?

No. Hull is a separate unitary authority with its own early years services. Places such as Hessle, Cottingham, Willerby and Beverley are within East Riding of Yorkshire.

What funded childcare is available in East Riding?

All 3 and 4 year olds can receive 15 funded hours a week for 38 weeks a year. Eligible working families can receive up to 30 funded hours a week from 9 months old until school age.

When can my child start using funded childcare?

Funding normally starts from the next eligible term after your child reaches the qualifying age. Children reaching the relevant age between January and March can start from April, between April and August from September, and between September and December from January.

Can some 2 year olds get funded childcare if their parents are not working?

Yes. Some 2 year olds receiving additional government support can qualify for 15 funded hours a week for 38 weeks, including children who meet certain family, disability or care related criteria.

Can funded hours be spread across more of the year?

Yes, where the chosen provider offers a stretched arrangement. Instead of using all 15 or 30 hours during 38 term time weeks, families may use fewer funded hours each week across a longer period.

Are meals, nappies and activities included in funded childcare?

Not necessarily. Providers may charge separately for meals, snacks, nappies, sun cream, extra hours or optional activities. Parents should check what is included before agreeing to a childcare place.

Can funded hours be split between two childcare providers?

Yes. East Riding allows funded entitlement to be used at up to two childcare sites in one day, provided the total hours remain within the child's entitlement. This can help families combine different childcare arrangements during the week.

Is extra funding available for children with SEND?

Yes. Children with additional needs may be supported through the East Riding SEND Local Offer and early years support. An eligible child receiving Disability Living Allowance and funded early education may also attract £938 a year in Disability Access Fund, paid to the chosen setting to support access and inclusion.
